Did you know if there is a trash pickup service available in your area it is illegal to burn trash and other refuse ? Yep, it sure is. Most folks are not aware of this so we are adding this information to our website as well as some links to important information to help you determine what you can and cannot burn legally.

The Little Axe Fire Department does not require burn permits for the unincorporated area we respond to for fire protection. It is appreciated however if you will notify us of your intent to perform an open burn and provide us with information about the location, time and who will be watching over the burn, so we are aware of it when calls come in for the same location. You can reach us for this non-emergency event by calling (405) 386-7700.

If you happen to live in the area and are actually within the Norman City limits, other laws will apply. The City of Norman requires burn permits if you live within the city limits. You can reach them at (405) 292-9780.

In an effort to assist you in determining if you should burn or not we have provided the following links to documents that will help. These documents are provided by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). More information can be obtained by contacting DEQ directly at (405) 702-6100.

**NOTE:  In order to read these documents you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer which is available for free download from their website.

We hope you find this information useful and that it allows you to make good decisions about what, when and most importantly, "IF" it is ok to burn.

Feel free to contact us any time for more information or to even schedule a site visit by our local Fire Marshal. You can also drop by the station behind Pecan Valley Junction Store any Wednesday night between 6:00pm and 9:00pm during our regular weekly scheduled maintenance and training.

The Little Axe Fire Department was established in 1974 to protect life and property in the Little Axe Fire Protection District #70 of Cleveland County, Oklahoma. Since it’s creation LAFD has effectively evolved to meet the ever increasing needs of the fire service, and currently is composed of 20 volunteer members who provide fire protection 24 hours per day and 365 days per year. At present we operate 1Tanker, 1 Engine, 2 Brush pumpers, and one support equipment unit.

We currently operate out of two locations within our district. The primary location is 17777 S. Harrah Road, Newalla, OK 74857. This facility was constructed in the late 1980’s and consists of a three bay garage, meeting room, kitchen area, training area, and two offices. Some renovations to the station are underway at this time as time, funding, and materials permit. We also operate out of a shared location at 1000 158th Avenue Northeast, Norman, OK, 73026 in conjunction with the Norman Fire Department where we house up to two vehicles.
