As previously mentioned, we’ve been busy. As many of you are aware, our department places a heavy emphasis on training. Continuing our emphasis, our department participated again this year in the annual OSFA John F. Futhey II State Fire School at Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center from May 2nd to May 4th.

This year, we had a total of eight participants taking a total of seven different classes. These courses included:

Strategies and Tactics for Initial Company Operations which included training regarding being the initial response unit to a structural fire, size up, setting up command, and putting together a plan to accomplish Life Safety, Incident Stabilization, and Property Conservation,

Pump Operations which included training regarding the inner workings of a fire engine pump along with maintenance

Hydraulic Pump Operations included training on water flow and operating a pump at a fire scene

Basic Auto Extrication included safety training and the basics for stabilizing and cutting a damaged vehicle

Leadership III included training on being an effective supervisor

Driver Simulation included training on safely maneuvering a fire apparatus

Exterior Offensive Fire Attack with Scene Size-Up included training on being aggressive with fighting fire from outside of a structure and property assessing a structure upon arrival.

Those participating in Strategies and Tactics for Initial Company Operations and Hydraulic Pump Operations spent their Sunday working out at the drill tower completing live fire training evolutions.

So, if you are ever wondering what Little Axe Fire Department is up to, you can bet we are hard at work training to be better professional firefighters to better serve our community.
